THE BASIC BASE

If like me, you often find yourself in a rush in the mornings or find yourself applying makeup ten minutes before you walk out the door then you probably have a few products that you reach for to make sure you have a quick, reliable basic look. For me, I'm not one who needs a perfect, flawless face every time I step out of the house, more frequently than not I choose not to wear makeup but for the days I do wear it, I thought I would share the products I use to give me a quick, basic base.

Before I go any further this is a post about face makeup and it is worth noting that for these days, I often tend to skip a heavy eye look, favouring instead a curled lash and a slick of mascara.

The winter months find me reaching for a foundation more than my typical BB Creams and I always go back to my beloved L'Oreal Paris True Match Foundation in Ivory (1.N). I've been using this foundation since I was a teenager and really love it. It has a lovely buildable coverage, perfect for areas of redness or small blemishes. I find that it always leaves my skin looking glowy and gives a nice even tone without ever looking caked on. They changed the formulation a little while back, you can read my post (which is essentially an outpouring of love) about it here.

Touch wood, my skin has really improved on the blemish front recently which means foundation usually covers any pesky spots so I'm really only using concealer for my under eye area which is great when you're in a rush! For this, I've been using the matching concealer to my foundation. The L'Oreal Paris True Match Concealer in Rose Ivory (1.R/C) to conceal the dark circles and just brighten up that area. One thing I really like about this concealer is that it can also be used as a highlighter; so I'll dot it on the highpoints of my face (cheekbones, nose, cupids bow etc).

I'm a big fan of my Rimmel London Sculpting Palette in 002 Coral Glow. The bronzer is great for adding some subtle contour to my cheekbones as well as being easy to blend. Which means its great for also adding some much-needed warmth to my pale face without looking too overdone. I also really like the blush in this palette too. It's a gorgeous matte coral, of which, a small amount adds a really lovely, subtle flush of colour to the apples of the cheeks. All in all, creating a gorgeous glowing, healthy looking base.

To set my base, if I had time, I'd go in with a loose translucent powder, but when I'm in a rush I need a mattifying pressed powder that I can keep with me when I'm out. A trusted favourite of mine is the Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot. Not much to say here, other than a quick sweep of this finely milled translucent powder under the eyes and through the t-zone and I'm good to go. I also love the huge mirror this compact has in it, another added bonus when I throw it in my bag.

Those are the products I use to guarantee a quick, basic base of makeup that only takes 5 minutes. What products do you use to achieve a basic base when you don't have much time? Let me know in the comments.
